Benefits of Social Media Marketing

With so many social media platforms available, how do you, as a business owner, know which ones are right for you? Let us take Pinterest, for example, and look at how that platform may be well suited for your brand and reaching your target audience. Please note that “target audience" and " platform” are the two magic words for selecting a platform and developing your following, or in this case, “Pins.”

Pinterest is a visual platform where users can search for everything from decorating ideas, DIY projects, gift ideas, business tips, cute pets, and inspirational ideas. As a business owner, when creating a Pinterest platform for marketing your brand, you want to ensure you are reaching your target audience again. Pinterest is a social commerce platform where users “have an annual income of over $100,00, and they’re ready to buy with they browse the platform for products.” (West, 2023) With customers searching multiple platforms in search of products, you are bound to hear some water cooler discussion on the distrust consumers and businesses have with some of these platforms. However, when reviewing the number of consumers and businesses alike, they could not be happier than with the results from this platform and the Pinterest reading with the American Customer Satisfaction Index. “Pinterest had the highest score with 76/100, tied only with YouTube” from 2021 to 2022, showing they have a “highly satisfied user base.” (West, 2023)

It is important to note the growth of Pinterest and the speed of its growth. It started in December 2009, and a year later, in 2010, had 10,000 users platform. Not a lot I know, but they continued to grow, working to provide users with what they were searching for, and you can see this growth; in January 2012, comScore reported the site had 11.7 million unique United States visitors,” then a year later, that number grew to 48.7 million. (Zippa 2021) The growth continues at “7.5% year-over-year,” and when you are creating content to market to your target audience, this platform has continued to show that they are excelling in its growth, and the potential for that has no ceiling. (West, 2023)

Now, the question of what exactly Pinterest is may be swirling around in the back of your mind, as well as how I can jump onto this platform's growth with Pinterest. Pinterest is a visual platform that allows users to search for ideas through images versus words. Think of it as a large vision board; you have foods that interest you, home designs, or travel locations. Users create and title these boards and pin the images they like. Those images include a description and information about the individual who first pinned the image to Pinterest. Follow that with a simple click on the image, and the user will find themselves on your Pinterest page, which will be full of information about you, your company, and what products you have that they need. The best part is when someone Pins your image to their board, all of those who follow that user, friends, and family can now see what she pinned and learn more about you. Thank you for it, as instead of spreading information by word of mouth, you are spreading it through pinned mages.
